After lunch today, Alfonso noticed the bloodmobile in the parking lot. He decided to walk in (without telling Tatiana or I — who were walking for a bit without noticing he was, well, gone).
I decided to go in myself because I’m stockpiling good karma.
So since I’ve never given blood before Alfonso was going first (also, again, because he just walked away from us and into the bloodmobile without saying anything). So I start filling out my paperwork and right after coming out of the little screening booth and laying down to get my blood taken out of me, he walks by and leaves. “I’m not giving blood away because I’m selfish and don’t care about the sick,” he says, then walks out. He spoke pretty quickly and in a thick mexican accent so I’m pretty sure that’s what he said, though it could have also been something like, “My blood pressure is too high to give blood today.” Either way, I proceed on and give blood for the first time ever. I even got a cookie, but did not get a sticker saying I gave blood.
Anyway — that said, despite all the good karma, moving into my cube today, I broke it almost instantly then proceded to hurt myself in 3 or 4 different ways. Karma sucks.

This past Friday I did on-campus interviews. We had a variety of free stuff to give out — shirts, a magnet toy, and a wood block toy. At one point one of the other attendees came over, gave us some of their stuff (a little clock, some cards, and a couple tins of mints) in exchange for one of our toys. So a few of us were occasionally eating a mint, and we had them on our podium off to the back side out of the way.
Some random student comes up, looks at our table and, without saying a word, grabs a shirt, our two toys, and spots the mints. She grabs the tin of mints. One of the other MS people says “hey, those are our mints.” She looks at him and wordlessly walks away. “You’re taking our mints!”
They were pretty good mints too.
I was a little worried, we had some bottles of water up there too, I’m glad to say though that nobody took any of those.

It’s like 2 degrees in the room I’m in right now.

It is seriously — this is no exaggeration — 1,253 degrees in my room right now.

While working in the lab with someone, we got to talking about legos. His kid loves legos and I told him it’s a good sign — good people always played with legos when they were young.
When I was small my siblings and friends would play with legos, each usually with our own ‘country’. At least a few times we had currency and everything (monopoly money; the world treasury was a Little People Firehouse, the most secure place in the basement). There wasn’t much of an economy — all raw goods were just heaped up in the middle of the room. The world basically existed on a thin line of our tempers, global annialation happenign when one of us got mad and Godzillaed the whole world.
Anyway, talking about this, I then pointed out that you can tell a lot about someone’s personality when they are young by what they do with the legos.
My sister built houses, very nice ones, complete with bathrooms. She was going to be a civil engineer for a while and there was little surprise to be had.
My neighbor Timmy built warcrafts and we weren’t surprised he eventually joined the army. (I think we all built war stuff though — I remember we had one ‘warhead’ piece and it was always a mad dash to find it in the pile. I believe eventually we put it into a ring case and hid it — global disarmorment. We were very advanced for our age).
I built a “Sam’s Wholesale” club and sold pieces I grabbed from the general pile for money.
My brother Chris just embezled from the bank. Hmm. Maybe his current employer should be notified.
